Chandigarh, In a bid to provide ownership rights to the persons residing in ‘Lal Dora’, the Punjab Government has accelerated process to finalize the policy regarding this.
Punjab Welfare Minister S. Gulzar Singh Ranike presiding over a high level meeting in which Mr. P.S. Aujla, Principal Secretary/Deputy Chief Minister, Punjab and other officers of the welfare department were also present, said that a large number of people residing in ‘Lal Dora’ are facing many problems. He said that people residing in lal dora have no legal rights of ownership and banks don’t give loans on such houses which are constructed in lal dora. He also said that after the death of the head of a family it was very difficult for the next generation to transfer the property on their name.
He said that many issues regarding legal aspect and other rules & regulations discussed in the meeting and it is discussed that a committee comprising Principal Secretaries of Revenue, Rural Development, Local Bodies and Welfare Department & Advocate General should be constituted to finalize the policy.
It is also discussed that a survey about lal dora houses in villages and towns should be conducted from some reputed agency. The Minister said that Punjab Vidhan Sabha has already moved a motion to give ownership rights to the persons living in lal dora and very soon he would meet Chief Minister or Deputy Chief Minister to finalize the policy. After ownership rights it will also help to get the Residential certificates, schedule caste and other backward classes certificates besides loan facility and to offer bail on surety bonds, he added.
