PUNJAB DELEGATION IN SHILLONG MEETS OFFICIALS TO SEEK EXPEDITING OF LAND CASE DISPUTE RESOLUTION

SHILLONG, The four-member Punjab delegation led by Cabinet Minister S. Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa on Tuesday met Hima Mylliem, the Syiem of Mylliem, to seek expediting the resolution of the disputed land case which was at the centre of the current trouble in Shillong.

The case is pending with Syiem of Mylliem, and Randhawa said he and other team members had impressed upon him the need to expedite the matter in order to defuse the prevailing tension.

The team, which has been sent by Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh to make a ground assessment of the situation, visited the Gurdwara to ascertain if any damage had been inflicted on it. Randhawa said they had not found any damage and expressed concerned about rumours to the contrary, spread by vested interests in an apparent bid to trigger communal strife in the area.

Expressing satisfaction at the prevailing law and order around the area, Randhawa said they were relieved to see religious activities being carried out as usual at the Gurdwara without any hindrance.

The delegation assured the Sikh community in the troubled areas that they would not face any dislocation in the wake of the recent trouble. The Punjab Government led by Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh stands shoulder to shoulder with them in their hour of need and would pursue their case to the highest level.

Apart from Randhawa, the delegation includes S. Ravneet Singh Bittu and S. Gurjit Singh Aujla (both MPs), MLA Mr. Kuldip Singh Vaid and IAS Mr. DS Mangat.
