Punjab Constitutes ‘Skill Development Mission’

Chandigarh, The Punjab Government today notified the constitution of 29 member “Punjab Skill Development Mission” under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Punjab, to formulate and steer various skill development schemes and to bring synergy, oversight and effective coordination of implementation of various skill development initiatives across the departments. It is the major initiative of Punjab Government to achieve the target of providing skill development to one lakh youth every year.

According to an official spokesperson 29 member governing council besides Chief Minister would consist of Ministers of Technical Education and Industrial Training, Finance and Planning, Industry and Commerce , Labour, Employment Generation, Rural Development and Panchayat, Local Government, Health and Family Welfare, Welfare of SC and BC, Social Security and School Education and also administrative secretaries of respective departments. It would also have 5 representatives from Industries, 2 skill development experts besides MD and CEO of NSDC as members.

The Governing Council would provide guidance and support and overall policy direction to skill development mission and would formulate state action plan for skill development.

The spokesperson said that the state government has also announced constitution of state steering committee to provide focused implementation of skill development policies. The steering committee would be headed by Chief Secretary with respective administrative secretaries of the concerned department as members. 5 members of industry, 2 skill development expert would be members of this committee. The steering committee would frame policy, guidelines and rules for the mission and approve communication and social mobilisation strategy for the mission.

Similarly the constitution of state executive committee, district executive committee, district programme management units and block level coordination and monitoring units were also notified by the government.
