Driving Naari Programme launched in Chandigarh
Chandigarh, August 5: The Punjab Congress MLA’s Sh. Lal Singh, Tripat Rajinder Singh Bajwa, Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa , Sukh Sarkaria & Parminder Singh today demanded immediate resignation of state Bharatiya Janata Party President Kamal Sharma on moral grounds in view of the names of his associates surfacing in drug smuggling. The party MLAs also pressed for the arrest of his two of his former associates and dismissal of the police officials involved
.
“The names of Jugraj Singh Katora and Jimmi Sandhu have come out after the arrest of one Lakha Singh a few days back. The party action against them is not enough. Katora was the Ferozepur district party chief while Sandhu was a BJP youth leader and for former personal assistant of the state BJP chief. Sharma must own moral responsibility and resign as he has no right to continue in office”, they added.
These MLAs said their arrest and subsequent investigation might lead to the deeper police-politician nexus without which drug smuggling was not possible.
They also demanded the summary dismissal of the police officials involved whose involvement was too well known. They had been taking protection money from such anti-social elements, especially in this very case.
They pointed out that both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Rajnath Singh had expressed serious concern over the menace of drugs that had hit this border state. However, mere showing concern was not enough and what was needed was strong action to convince the people that they meant business.
They said what had come to light was only tip of the iceberg and the trail might lead to drug sharks in case thorough investigation was done.
They underlined that drug smuggling from across the border was a threat to the country as the operation was also linked with the terrorist activity. What had happened at Dinanagar should be an eye opener.
They reiterated that Sharma must resign and the two leaders whose resignation had been taken from the party must be arrested to prove that the police administration and the political leadership were really serious about this grave danger to the country.
