Chandigarh, November 15, 2021: A delegation of BJP leaders from Punjab led by state party president Ashwani Sharma called on President of India Ram Nath Kovind on Tuesday. They requested President for reopening the Kartarpur corridor. for Gurpurab on 19 November so that pilgrims visit the Gurdwara on Guru Nanak Dev’s birth anniversary.
“The initiative of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to open the Kartarpur corridor after 1947 for the Sikhs and followers of Guru Nanak demonstrates the sentiments of the BJP and the Prime Minister towards the Sikh religion and followers of Guru Nanak all over the world,” said Ashwani Sharma.
“Due to the total negligence of the Congress party, the historic gurdwara was left in the territory of Pakistan. A mere 4.7 kilometers from the Indian territory it is unfortunate that for decades since Independence Sikhs could not visit the holy shrine. The Kartarpur corridor was opened on 9 November 2019 for which the initiative was started in 2014 when the BJP formed a government in the center,” he added.
“The Corridor was closed due to corona pandemic in 2020. Since the country has done an outstanding job of vaccinating 110 crore we have requested the Pcroresent to open the corridor for Gurpurab,” Sharma shared.
The delegation comprised of Dushyant Guatum, Harjit Singh Grewal,Dyal Singh Sodhi and Vikramjit Singh Cheema.
