Punjab becomes first state to make Sc sub plan funds non transferable to other plans- Ranike

* EACH DEPARTMENT TOLD TO APPOINT NODAL OFFICER TO MONITOR THE USAGE OF SC PLAN FUNDS

Chandigarh, May 12: The Punjab Government today set aside Rs. 6764 crores under SC Sub Plan, the largest allocation since independence for the welfare of Scheduled Castes with the strict condition that not a single paisa of SC Sub Plan Funds would be transferrable to any other sub plan.

Chairing a meeting of SC Sub Plan Implementation Committee, Mr. Gulzar Singh Ranike, Welfare Minister, Punjab said that a separate minor head 789 SCP for SCs has been opened by Finance Department and it has been ensured that not a single paisa from Rs. 6764 crore would be transferrable to other heads. Listing out the welfare plans for the year, Mr. Ranike said that Rs. 45 crore had been allocated for Adarsh Gram Yojana and Rs. 1 crore for the new building of welfare department.

Asking all departments to appoint a nodal officer to monitor the utilisation of SC Sub Plan fund, Mr. Ranike said that Nodal Officer would be responsible for drawing up plans and effective utilisation of available funds under the scheme.

Prominent amongst those present in the meeting including Secretary Welfare Mrs. Seema Jain, Director Welfare Mrs. Alak Nanda Dayal, Additional Secretary Finance Mr. Parveen Thind and Special Secretary Personnel Gurpreet Sapra and senior officers of Welfare and Finance Department.
