Project to sterilise 25,000 stray dogs in Ludhiana to be launched tomorrow

Ludhiana, Providing a much required relief to the city residents, the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation would be starting their much awaited Stray Dog Sterilisationproject in Ludhiana from tomorrow onwards. This project would be formally launched by Irrigation Minister Punjab Mr Sharanjit Singh Dhillon and Ludhiana Mayor Mr Harcharan Singh Gohalwaria. Under this Rs 2-crore project, a total of 25,000 stray dogs would be sterilised in a period of two years.

The contract for this project has been awarded to a Hyderabad based company named Vets Society for Animal Welfare and Rural Development.

While providing details, Mr Amarjit Singh Sekhon, Joint Commissioner (Sanitation and Health), Ludhiana Municipal Corporation, informed the Stray Dog Sterilisation project would be very beneficial for the city residents. He said that a Sterilisation Centre has been specially set up for this project near Haibowal Dairy Complex on Hambran Road, here. He said that this hospital comprises of an Operation Theatre, three rooms and 20 kennels.

Mr Sekhon informed that the stray dogs would be sterilised using conventional technique which is approved by Animal Welfare Board of India. He said that the company, Vets Society for Animal Welfare and Rural Development, has been asked to sterilise 1,200 dogs per month. He said the minimum dogs that the company would sterilise will be 1,000.

Mayor Mr Harcharan Singh Gohalwaria informed that once a stray dog is sterilised, the company would conduct its ear notching (a V shape cut on the dog’s ear), for recording that this particular dog has been sterilised. The Ludhiana MC plans to start this project from one particular pocket and would cover the entire city in a phased manner.

The Mayor said that this project would prove beneficial for the city residents. He said that once this project starts its operation, the city residents would heave a sigh of relief from this menace of stray dogs. He said that the dog sterilisation project would be carried out in a transparent manner and that they would make sure the dogs are not harmed in any manner during the entire sterilisation process.

The Stray Dog Sterilisation project would be launched by Punjab Irrigation Minister Mr Sharanjit Singh Dhillon and Ludhiana Mayor Mr Harcharan Singh Gohalwariafrom newly constructed Sterilisation Centre located near Haibowal Dairy Complex onHambran Road at 3 pm tomorrow, i.e. February 25, 2015 (Wednesday).
