Prime minister honours 6 outstanding panchayats of punjab

Chandigarh, Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi today honoured 6 Pachayat Bodies of Punjab and lauded Panchayat Bodies of boarder state for their progressive and visionary practices. The Prime Minister also gave a call of empowerment of women Paches and Sarpanches to make them active partner in the progress of rural India. The Prime Minister honoured one Zila Parishad, 2 block samities and 6 panchayats from Punjab on Panchayat Divas for National award at New Delhi.

Mr. Sikandar Singh Maluka ,Rural Development and Pachayat Minister, Mr. Mantar Singh Brar, CPS and Sarpanches and Chairmen of award winning Panchayats, Block Samities and Zila Parishad received the award for their excellent overall performance in various activities such as for maintaining cleanliness, creating awareness against use of harmful drugs and other intoxicants, launching a campaign against female foeticide and other social evils as well as for implementation of the various development schemes of the government.

The Prime Minister, Mr.Narendra Modi, felicitating the Punjab Minister and awardees urged Panchayat members to work with a five-year vision with concrete development plans to bring about positive changes in their village.
The Prime Minister urged Panchayat members to instil pride about the village. He said this required a firm resolve, rather than any budgetary provision. He gave some suggestions in this regard, such as celebrating a birthday of the village. He said issues such as education of children in the village, and vaccination for children, should be paid special attention to, by Panchayat members.

Focusing on women empowerment the Prime Minister called upon women Paches and Sarpanches to play active part in Pachaytas and become partner in the progress on Rural India.

The Prime Minister urged Panchayat members to motivate all Government officials in their village to spend at least one hour a week with schoolchildren of the village.

The Rural Development Minister said that to identify best performing panchayats for the National Awards, a survey was conducted to study performance with regard to cleanliness and other development activities. Before making the final selection for the awards, a central team also verified and inspected the overall performance of panchayats.

The Minister has congratulated these all panchayats for receiving this prestigious award by Prime Minister himself. He also said that it is pride for Punjab to having awards for outstanding performance and development of rural areas. He said that these awards play a significant role to encourage others panchayats to achieve higher level of development as for providing facilities provided by the Government.

It may be added that PanchayatBodies honoured for the National Award today included the Mansa Zila Panchayats with the prize of Rs 30 lac, two Block Panchayats Balachaur (Mansa) and Bhagta Bhai Ka (Bhatinda) with Prize of Rs. 20 lac each, Six Gram Panchayats Tamkot (Mansa, Harnampura (Ludhiana),Talwandi Sanghera (Jalandhar) Bahadurpur (Ropar) Adampur(Bhatinda) and Harigarh (Barnala with the prize of Rs.5 lac each.
