Poll shows parties neck and neck more than halfway through campaign

A new poll shows Canada’s three major parties locked in a statistical dead heat more than halfway through the federal election campaign.
The poll, released by Nanos Research Saturday, shows the Liberal party leading, with 31 per cent support nationally. The Conservatives trail closely with 30.9 per cent support, followed by the NDP, with 30.1 per cent support.
However no party has a clear lead when you factor in the poll’s margin of error.
The poll appears to indicate that the parties are enjoying stronger support in different parts of the country.
In seat-rich Ontario, The Liberals sit at 40.4 per cent support, while the Conservatives sit at 32.9 per cent support. The federal NDP are in the third place in the province with 22.2 per cent support.
Meanwhile, the NDP appear to enjoy a strong lead in Quebec (47.9 per cent support) while the Conservatives lead comfortably in the prairies (54.1 per cent support).
The poll surveyed 1,200 voters across the country by telephone between Sept. 9 and Sept. 11. It has a margin of error of plus or minus three percentage points, 19 times out of 20.
