Toronto, Toronto police are investigating arson as the suspected cause in a number of overnight car fires.
A total of seven vehicles went up in flames overnight – five in the area of Church Street and The Esplanade and two in Yorkville, police said.
Reports from the scene say the fires in first area started around midnight at a Toronto Community Housing complex at 55 The Esplanade, where several vehicles were found burning in an underground parking garage.
Police believe the suspects fled in a minivan after the fires started.
Two vehicles were also found burning in the Hazelton Lanes area.
Police said the fires are likely connected.
No one was injured in the fires. Police have not yet provided a damage estimate.
The Ontario Fire Marshall’s Office has been called in to investigate.
