Police cruelty at Jaito Police station: ‘Do you still feel proud of the police force’, Dal Khalsa asks Capt Amrinder

Fatehgarh Sahib- Dal Khalsa today lashed out at police for its cruelty on 18-year-old graduate student and two of her friends at Jaitu police station.

Demanding a criminal case of wrongful confinement & torture in custody be registered against SHO Gurmeet Singh, party head H S Cheema said the police of Punjab with full patronage of the political leadership have perfected the art of public torture by thrashing people in full public view in the name of restoring law and order. This has been going on in full media glare without any shame, remorse and with full impunity.

He questioned the silence of chief minister Captain Amrinder Singh against police atrocities unleashed on innocent girl and boys.

Referring to Chief Minister’s statement patting the back of the police for killing gangster Vicky Gounder and his two accomplices in an encounter, he asked him “do you still feel proud of this police”.

He said unlawful arrests and detentions and brutal torture in custody has become trademark of the state police. “It is distressing that since the last many years and decades, no Chief Minister has made any dent in the wilfully negligent and pro-actively tortuous ways of the police”.

He further asked DGP Punjab to suspend Inspector Gurmeet and put him on trail for criminal offences as sending him to police lines isn’t an exemplary punishment.
