PM Narendra Modi Praises Mohammed Shami, Team India After Rohit Sharma’s Men Enter ODI World Cup 2023 Final

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi was all praise for the Indian team, especially Mohammed Shami after Rohit Sharma’s men defeated New Zealand by 70 runs Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai to march into the ODI World Cup 2023 final on Wednesday.
Defending 398, New Zealand looked to take the game away but Shami’s career-best 7/57 proved too costly for the Kiwis as India are just one win away from ending a 12-year World Cup drought. “Congratulations to Team India! India puts up a superlative performance and enters the Finals in remarkable style. Fantastic batting and good bowling sealed the match for our team.

Best wishes for the Finals!,” Modi posted on social media platform X (formerly Twitter). “Today’s Semi Final has been even more special thanks to stellar individual performances too. The bowling by @MdShami11 in this game and also through the World Cup will be cherished by cricket lovers for generations to come. Well played Shami,” wrote Modi in another post.

Shami claimed his third five-wicket haul of the tournament as India overcame a valiant century by Daryl Mitchell (134). Incidentally, Shami had taken a five-wicket haul against the same New Zealand side in the league stages in Dharamshala.

Shami’s other five-wicket haul came against against Sri Lanka at the same venue earlier in the year. Earlier, Virat Kohli (117) struck a record-breaking 50th century while Shreyas Iyer blazed to second successive World Cup ton to help India post a massive 397/4 in 50 overs. In reply, New Zealand were all out for 327 in 48.5 overs. The Men in Blue, who now are on a 10-match unbeaten streak will will next meet the winner of the second semifinal between Australia and South Africa to be played at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Thursday. The final will be played in Ahmedabad on Sunday (November 19).
