Chandigarh, A delegation led by Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal today called on Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh over the demolition of a water kiosk (‘piau’) at Gurdwara Sis Ganj Sahib in Chandni Chowk, New Delhi, and asked him to intervene to get the kiosk reinstalled.
During the meeting in Delhi, Sukhbir claimed that Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Alka Lamba, who is also the director of the Shahjahanabad Redevelopment Corporation (SRDC), was responsible for the demolition. He alleged that the AAP government had misinformed the court about the ‘piau’, adding that the court order for its demolition had been implemented wrongly.
He told the Home Minister that Lamba had on April 5 held a meeting with officers of the North Delhi Municipal Corporation, police and others and directed them to start the demolition at 6 am on April 6.
“Other religious structures are also there, but the demolition began from Gurdwara Sis Ganj Sahib, which proves that it was done intentionally,” he alleged.
The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president requested Rajnath to ask the Delhi Lieutenant Governor to look into the matter and file a correct representation in the court to save the kiosk. The Union minister gave an assurance in this regard to the delegation.
Sukhbir was accompanied by DSGMC president Manjit Singh GK, general secretary Manjinder Singh Sirsa, senior SAD leaders Avtar Singh Hit and Onkar Singh Thapar.
