Ontario: One man is in hospital this morning with critical injuries after he was struck by a truck near the Art Gallery of Ontario.
At around 7:15 a.m., police say the driver of a five-ton truck was headed southbound on Beverley Street approaching Dundas Street when a pedestrian who was attempting to cross the road was struck by the vehicle.
According to investigators, when emergency crews arrived on scene, they found a man, who is believed to be in his 40s, lying on the ground in the middle of the intersection.
The victim, who sustained serious head injuries, was rushed to a trauma centre via emergency run.
His injuries are believed to be life-threatening.
Speaking to CP24 Wednesday morning, Const. Clint Stibbe said the area has been closed to traffic as police investigate the incident.
“We are looking to determine whether it was the pedestrian stepping out against the light or perhaps the truck disobeying the light as it was southbound,” Stibbe said.
Toronto police’s collision reconstruction unit is on scene as well as commercial motor-vehicle inspection teams. Investigators are asking anyone with dash camera video of the collision to come forward.
“We are also looking for witnesses to the collision,” Stibbe said.
Roads were closed in the area for several hours but have since reopened.
