Pb. notifies to converve the ancestral house of martyr Sukhdev Thapar as historical monument : Thandal

Chandigarh, The Punjab government today set in motion the process of preserving the ancestral house belonging to the great martyr Sukhdev Thapar at Ludhiana as Monument of historical importance by issuing a notification under the Punjab Ancient and Historical Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains Act 1964.

Disclosing this here today Mr. Sohan Singh Thandal, Cultural Affairs Minister said that the ground floor of the house of Shaheed Sukhdev located at Mohalla, Nou Ghara, Ludhiana has already been declared as preserved historical monument by the Punjab Government by its notification issued on May 20, 2008. He said that the Shaheed Sukhdev Thapar sacrificed his life at a very young age for liberating her motherland form yoke of imperialistic British Rule. He said the sacrifice of Shaheed Sukhdev is exemplary and acting as a light bearer for the younger generations. He said that keeping the selfless services of Shaheed Sukhdev in mind the Punjab Government has now decided to preserve the whole structure of his ancestral home at Ludhiana under “the Punjab Ancient and Historical Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains Act 1964”

Mr. Thandal further said that now the first and second floor of this house would be preserved. He said any person who have any proximity with this house and who has any objection for declaring this house as historical monument could file their objections with the tourism department within two months. He said that after completing this formality the Punjab Government would issue the final notification for declaring the whole ancestral house of Shaheed as Historical Monument.
