1

New Delhi, Patna Pirates beat U Mumba in the final to emerge as the winners of the third edition of the Pro Kabaddi in New Delhi on Saturday.
Patna beat Mumbai 31-28 to lift the golden trophy amidst spectacular scenes of celebration. Patna’s Rohit Kumar was awarded the best raider prize and Mumbai’s Mohit Chillar was adjudged the best defender of the match. Mumbai’s Rishank Devadiga emerged as the most successful raider of the season with 106 points. Patna won the title for first time. It was Sandeep Narwal who put up a great show to give victory to the team. It was his early points that set the tone for a big lead for Patna.
Going into the match, the Mumbai team was favourite to clinch their second consecutive title. Just like their last season’ campaign, they were peaking at the right time. Mumbai had defeated Patna twice this season.
Puneri Paltan finish third
Puneri Paltan notched up a comfortable 31-27 win over Bengal Warriors to finish at the third spot.
The Paltans laid the foundation in the first-half with a 15-8 lead and had to repel a late surge from their rivals who were without their star raider Nitin Tomar, Mahendra Goud and their formidable left-corner Girish Ernak. Despite being low on strength, the Bengal Warriors fought on gamely.
Jang Kun Lee and skipper Nilesh Shinde raised their game to pump life into the match. Warriors made a sedate start to the match, going 4-0 up with Mahendra Rajput coming successful from two do-or-die raids and the Pune raiders’ Surendra Singh and Ajay Thakur falling to Umesh Mhatre and Bajirao Hodage in rival territory.
But once Jang Kun Lee got super-tackled by Manjeet Chhillar, Puneri Paltan were in business.
