Driving Naari Programme launched in Chandigarh
Chandigarh, August 3: Congress MLA from Ferozepur Parminder Singh Pinki today demanded immediate arrest of the local BJP leaders and some police officials whose names had cropped up in aiding and abetting smuggling of narcotics as such activities posed a serious threat to the country.
He said one Lakha Singh had been in the police custody for the last five days on smuggling charges. He had named certain political leaders from the BJP and police officials in the racket. Action should be taken immediately against them.
He said state BJP President Kamal Sharma had earlier taken resignation of his district party chief Jugraj Singh Katora as he became controversial with his name cropping up in such activities. Yet another of his supporter who functioned as District president of BJP Yuva Morcha had also to be side-lined by him.
He asserted this was not enough as the issue was very serious with international ramification which posed danger to the country as evident from the recent terrorist attack by the Pakistan based terrorists in Dinanagar. He said the smuggling activities on this side of the border were rooted in the design of the ISI to destabilise the country.
He alleged that a nefarious police-politician nexus was at work in Ferozepur in aiding and abetting such anti-national activities. He demanded that the police officials whose names had cropped up should be investigated and action taken against them.
He pointed out that this sensitive issue was earlier raised in the Assembly. He said what had come on the surface with the latest arrest was just a tip of the iceberg and the situation called for a deeper probe by an independent agency as the issues involved were far too serious.
He said this border state could not afford to be complacent on such a sensitive issue as the people had already suffered for more than a decade due to the involvement of ISI in Punjab.
