Chandigarh, July 13: People’s Party of Punjab President Manpreet Singh Badal said Parkash Singh Badal was likely to be known by his dismal record of a five times failed Chief Minister. He said while his becoming Chief Minister for the fifth time amounted to creating history, his track record would be that of non-governance and expansion of his family business coinciding with the tenures as the chief minister.
“It is both ironic and tragic that fifth time Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal has no achievement to boast about. Lachhman Singh Gill became the Chief Minister for a short duration but people still count his contributions to the state. The name of Partap Singh Kairon has been associated with development of undivided Punjab”, he added.

Commenting up Chief Minister’s interaction with the media here yesterday, Manpreet said it was interesting that he skirted direct questions on the business interests of his family that had seen exponential expansion in direct correlation to the period of his coming into power especially since 1997. It was an open secret that government policies had been tailored to suit business interests including the luxury buses which were now repeatedly in the news for their drivers having the licence to kill.

He urged the Chief Minister to refer to the Akali Dal manifestos of 2007 and 2012 Assembly elections and list those promises that had been fulfilled. He said even the amounts of old age pension and shagun scheme had not been revised although it was fourth year of the government. He slammed the present government as symbol of non-government, inefficiency and rampant corruption.

Commenting upon Chief Minister Badal’s assertion that the relationship between Akali Dal and the BJP was that of a husband and wife and that the two parties would contest the 2017 elections while continuing the alliance, he pointed out that the BJP has been viciously attacking the Akali leaders and that too publicly. The decision to continue the alliance would depend upon the BJP’s national leadership which had not given out any signal in this regard. He said what was known to the people was that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was not even obliging by giving appointment to the Chief Minister, what to talk of accepting the demands concerning this state, including fiscal relief.
