Panj Piaras direct SGPC to stop Akal Takht Jathedar from delivering Diwali address

Amritsar, November 9: five Panj Piaras at a meeting here today directed the executive committee of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee to stop Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh from delivering his address on Bandi Chhod Divas (Diwali).The Gurmata to this effect was adopted by them at a meeting here today in the context of earlier decision to sack the Akal Takht Jathedar.

They have stated that this duty should be entrusted to the Darbar Sahib Head Granthi.

The meeting also discussed the proposed Sarbat Khalsa convened by several Sikh organisations on November 10 and made it clear that the Sikh organisations were within their rights to take any decision regarding the issues facing the community. At the same time, they said proper procedure should be evolved by representatives of the Sikh organisations and the November 10 Sarbat Khalsa (PanthicCongregation) should be treated as a step towards convening this conclave in accordance with the Sikhs traditions at Akal Takht.

The signatories include Satnam Singh, Paramjit Singh, Satnam Singh, Major Singh and Tarlok singh.

It may be mentioned that all other Sikh organisations except the Akali Dal and the SGPC have opposed Akal Takht Jathedar delivering the address.
