The Lucknow Administration closed down a large part of the trans-Gomti area in the Uttar Pradesh’s Lucknow, hours after it was learnt that Bollywood singer Kanika Kapoor was staying here.
Kapoor tested positive for coronavirus on Friday. After she tested positive, former Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje and her Member of Parliament son Dushyant isolated themselves for having attended the same party as Kapoor in Agra.
Several politicians are believed to have attended the same event. The Kapoor and UP health minister Jai Pratap Singh, who also attended the event, have also self-quarantined themselves.
The District Magistrate has also ordered a complete shutdown of all areas that the Bollywood singer had visited during the past seven days in the state capital.
“Lucknow district magistrate has sought details within 24 hrs about parties attended by singer Kanika Kapoor who tested positive for coronavirus,” an official said.
Kapoor has been accused of being irresponsible for having thrown parties and attending events after she returned from the UK instead of going to the advised self-quarantine.
Lucknow’s District Magistrate has ordered the Taj Hotel, where Kapoor attended a high-profile party, to be closed until further orders.
Kanika had attended a party at the Hotel Taj when she arrived in Lucknow earlier this week.
The shutdown will be in force till March 31.
All shops, restaurants, roadside eateries, sweet shops, malls, cafe, bars, hair saloons, and beauty parlors were shut down earlier in the day.
