In the first truce violation this year, Pakistan on Thursday opened heavy fire on 13 forward posts along the International Border in Samba sector, injuring a BSF guard.
“After violating truce on Wednesday, the Rangers again opened fire around 12.30 am on our 13 border posts in Samba compelling us to give them an effective response,” said BSF IG (Jammu Frontier) RK Sharma. The exchange of fire continued till 6 am. “Since 6 am, there has been no fresh fire from across the border. We are keeping a close watch,” said Sharma.
A BSF Head Constable Ram Niwas of 9 Battalion sustained injuries in the firing. On Wednesday, BSF constable Ram Singh Gowria, a resident of Rajasthan, was killed and ASI Sunil Kumar had sustained minor injuries in the shelling. Four Rangers were also killed in the cross-fire.The IG said the BSF has lodged a strong protest with Pakistan via hotline. “Their (Rangers) response is awaited,” he said. The IG said around 50 to 60 ultras across the International Border were waiting to sneak into Jammu. “We are fully alert to thwart any such move,” he said. Samba SSP Anil Magotra said there were no reports of injuries to any civilian.
