Talwandi Sabo, Ousted Jathedar Balwant Singh Nandgarh today said renouncing the post was a “small thing for him as he had great regard for the Panth and its traditions”.“I will meet like-minded religious and political leaders tomorrow and then decide future course of action. The Jathedar’s post is miniscule as our Gurus have even sacrificed their lives to safeguard the sect,” said Nandgarh, who held the post for 12 years.
He said he would oppose the celebration of Gurpurb as per the Bikrami calendar, which this year coincided with the martyrdom of Sahibzadas. He said he would make people aware of the importance of holding Sikh festivals as per the Nanakshahi calendar, and the drawbacks of following its Bikrami version. He refused to comment on the SGPC committee order on his ouster. Alarge number of Sikh religious preachers and political parties today announced support for Nandgarh, among them being Eknoor Khalsa Fauj, Gurmat Sewa Lehar and Dharam Parchar Lehar.
