Malerkotla (Sangrur), Interacting with youth at a programme, “Captain ki baat naujawano ke sath”, here today, PPCC chief Capt Amarinder Singh said if the Congress was voted to power, it would give full salary to newly appointed staff from day 1.
He said the payment of only basic pay for two years to newly-appointed employees and meagre wages to contractual staff by the Badal government was not justified. He assured the youth that he would fill all vacant posts, especially in the education and health departments.
On incidents of sacrilege of Guru Granth Sahib in Bargari and Behbal Kalan, Amarinder claimed the matter was being probed by the CBI, but he was sure that Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal was behind both incidents.
Criticising the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Amarinder appealed to the people to vote the Congress to power for a prosperous Punjab as the party had experienced leadership.
Most youths asked questions about education, health, drugs, farming, law and order, development plans, real estate etc. The PPCC chief targeted leaders of the Akali Dal and AAP while replying to these questions. On drug menace, he said it could be eliminated in less than four weeks with strong political will.
He also promised to upgrade Malerkotla to a district, besides opening a medical college here.
Alliance talk:Channi speaks up for Dalit leaders
Jalandhar: Congress Legislature Party leader Charanjit Singh Channi today said he supported PPCC chief Capt Amarinder Singh’s decision to align with secular parties, including the BSP. But he would want that the political interests of the party’s Dalit leaders be protected. A prominent Dalit face of the party, Channi said: “We are capable of contesting the elections alone, but an alliance can further strengthen us. If we consider 9-10 seats for the BSP, no more than six of these should be reserved and the remaining general. The alliance should in no way hurt the interests of our strong Dalit leaders.”
‘AAP anti-Dalit’
The CLP leader said: “Till now, the Dalits followed AAPfoolishly just seeing the ‘jharu’ (broom) symbol. They have not seen the intention of the men behind this symbol. AAP leaders, including Kumar Vishwas, have been making statements that the caste-based reservation should go. Even Arvind Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia have similar views against the Dalits.”
