New Delhi, So, the New Zealanders are back at the Ferozeshah Kotla Stadium where they had started their current tour of India, which has so far been a forgettable one. In a three-day practice game against reigning Ranji champions Mumbai, which had resulted in a draw, New Zealand did something which they have not been able to replicate — cross the 300-run mark. Since then, it’s been all downhill for them. After the Test series whitewash, the New Zealanders hoped for a change in fortunes in the five-match ODI series. But the heavy defeat in the first ODI in Dharamsala showed their struggles are far from over.
Again at Kotla, New Zealand are eagerly looking to open their account on the tour.
“The tour, till date, hasn’t gone as we would have liked – a tough experience in the Test series and a severe defeat in Dharamsala,” New Zealand pacer Trent Boult said. “But the guys are looking forward to tomorrow night’s challenge. We will look to turn it around in Delhi.”
“We are looking to get more runs, which we haven’t. If we could put more runs on the board, we can offer more pressure on the Indian side. I am sure everyone will like to contribute more with the bat. The next couple of occasions are big for our batters and I am sure they are looking forward to it,” Boult said.
Boult admitted that New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson was finding it difficult to fill the big shoes of his predecessor Brendon McCullum, who retired recently. “He has had a pretty tough time in walking into the role of the captaincy. It’s a learning experience for him and the whole team to be honest. In terms of how Brendon led the team, both with the bat and captaincy, I don’t think anyone else will do it as well as he did,” he added.
