Ottawa police investigating after needle found in potato

Ottawa, Ottawa police are warning the public to be careful while handling food after a resident found what appears to be a sewing needle inside a potato.
Police say the potato came in a 10 pound bag purchased at an east end grocery store.
They say the store is co-operating in their investigation.
Police say it’s not clear whether the needle accidentally got stuck in the potato in the distribution process or whether someone maliciously placed it inside the vegetable.
They say they are working with the Canadian Food Inspection Agency and the RCMP to “ensure the on-going safety of the Canadian food supply.”
RCMP in Atlantic Canada recently investigated seven cases of needles found in potatoes grown at a farm in Prince Edward Island, but Ottawa Police say this case does not appear to be linked to those incidents.
