One lac sarpanches, Panches to be trained in Punjab : Maluka

Chandigarh, The Punjab Government today finalised major initiative to strengthen grass root democracy by approving a proposal to provide accounts audit and computer training to over one lac sarpanches of over 13000 villages so that they can become productive partner in the progress of rural Punjab.

Announcing this here today, Rural Development and Panchayat Minister Mr. Sikander Singh Maluka, said this training would be organised from November 2014 to March 2015.He said that in first phase 48000 representatives would be provided official training about the maintainance of panchayat accounts, auditing, utilisation of funds, administrative works etc. to facilitate the Panchayat members and Sarpanches. Hed said that it has been decided to organise training camps on each block level.The resource persons of state Rural Development Institute would impart training to Sarpanches,Panches, Block Samiti , Zila Parishad chairmen and members besides officers through block level training camps. The minister also said that experts from NABARD and Co-operatives and Panchayats would give their valuable views.

The Minister further said that Rs. 21 crore has been approved by the Punjab Government. He said this exercise was to ensure the maximum participation of elected representatives in the development projects and in the implementation of social welfare schemes of the Punjab government.
