Driving Naari Programme launched in Chandigarh
Chandigarh, A Kapurthala based Non-Resident Indian (NRI) woman levelled serious allegations on the supporters of former Punjab cabinet minister Upenderjeet Kaur for grabbing her land. 65-year-old Ravinder Kaur while addressing the media at Chandigarh Press Club, said that she belongs to village Sujjokalia in Sultanpur Lodhi of Kapurthala district and she has returned from America some time ago but when she came to the her native village she found that some influential politicians of the area wanted to grab her land. Ravinder Kaur also alleged that senior Akali leader and former Punjab cabinet minister Upenderjeet Kaur is also supporting these people. She further alleged that now, these persons are threatening her sons namely Navdeep Singh, Gursharan Singh and Ranbir Singh for implicating them in false cases.
What is the case?
Ravinder Kaur said that her family owned 4.5 acres of agricultural land near the gurudwara in their village. Expect 19 marlas, rest of the land is used for the agriculture purpose by the family. According to Ravinder Kaur, Panchayat members of the village Darshan Singh and his brother Amarjeet Singh who belong to the Akali party are trying to grab their land by forcefully making a temporary water supply line for irrigation in their land. Ravinder Kaur alleged that the Vice-Chairperson of Sultanpur Lodhi Block Samiti Surinder Kaur who is close to former Punjab Cabinet minister Upenderjeet Kaur is supporting Amarjeet Singh and Darshan Singh.
Pressurising through police
Ravinder Kaur further said that the police is also pressuring her family members by threatening to implicate them in false cases. She said that Darshan Singh lodged a complaint against her son Navdeep Singh on January 23 at Talwandi Chowdhrian police station following which her son Navdeep Singh was harassed by the police. Though police did not lodge any FIR against her son as he also lodged a complaint against Darshan Singh on January 25, but police used to call her sons to the police station to harass them, said Ravinder Kaur.
Police, administration refused to act on NRI cell’s recommendations
Ravinder Kaur said that she approached the NRI Cell of Punjab police at Chandigarh and the complaint was forwarded to Kapurthala police with immediate effect but police did not act on the complaint and continued to protect Darshan Singh and his family members. She said that the NRI cell prepared the report in her son’s favour but to no avail.
