Now Gobind Singh Deo is first Sikh minister in Malaysia

Chandigarh, May 21: A Sikh has risen to be the federal minister for the first time in the history of Malaysia.

According to the New Straits Times, Member of Parliament Gobind Singh Deo was sworn in as the Communications and Multimedia Minister at the National Palace earlier.

Gobind, 45, the son of late Karpal Singh, made history after Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad included his name in the list of new cabinet.

Gobind is also the first Sikh minister in Asia outside India.

He was first elected as MP in 2008.
