No justification for mob lynching: Amarinder Singh condemns killing of men accused of ‘sacrilege’

Former Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh expressed concern over the recent incidents of lynching reported in Amritsar and Kapurthala. Condemning the attacks that shook the state on Saturday and Sunday, Amarinder Singh said that there is no justification for mob lynching.

“There is no justification for mob lynching whatsoever, and it is condemnable,” Captain Amrinder said in Rajpura on Tuesday.

He condemned the killing of the two persons accused of ‘sacrilege’, and said the accused should have been handed over to the police.

ON FIR AGAINST BIKRAM MAJITHIA

Meanwhile, reacting to the registration of FIR against Bikram Majithia, Amarinder Singh said, “The case registered against Majithia will not stand legal scrutiny as the government had not followed due process of law.”

Former Punjab minister and senior Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Bikram Singh Majithia was booked in a drugs case. The FIR against Majithia was registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act at Mohali on Monday.

He further questioned on what basis the government had registered the case against the SAD leader, since the report on drug trafficking was still lying with the Punjab and Haryana High Court in a sealed cover.

“After all, there is a law in the country and I am sure it will not stand legal scrutiny in the court of law”, he said, while adding, “just because you don’t like someone, you can’t put him behind bars”.
