Patiala, Aam Aadmi Party’s state convener Sucha Singh Chhotepur’s warning to Patiala MP Dr Dharamvira Gandhi to abstain from criticising the party least he too may be expelled has led a fresh war of words between the two leaders.
Both leaders have been at loggerheads since long and are often seen challenging each others’ credentials. Chhotepur’s statement has come as a threat to Dr Gandhi who recently shared the stage with expelled AAP leaders Yodinger Yadav and Prashant Bhushan during a farmers’ rally in Delhi.
Dr Gandhi said he was unfazed and undeterred by such threats and reiterated his resolve to continue his struggle against those “who are bent upon changing the character of the party by transforming it in to a party of sycophants, tainted politicians and making it a family affair.”
Taking a dig at Chhotepur, Dr Gandhi said the reorganised structure of AAP in Punjab had been festered by Chhotepur and some leaders from Delhi which was doing “immense harm” to the party in Punjab.
“Chhotepur has demoralised the honest and dedicated volunteers and the epicentre of this discontentment and feeling of revolt is not Patiala, but Majha, especially Gurdaspur, the home turf of Chhotepur,” the MP alleged.
He said he was surprised as to how several “tainted leaders” from different political outfits had been made a part of party’s Punjab unit at behest of some senior leaders from Delhi who neither belonged to Punjab nor were aware of its historical and cultural roots.
“There is a historic opportunity and challenge before the people of Punjab in 2017 to decimate the tyrant mafia Akali-BJP rule and corrupt Congress. But by fast changing the ideological and organisational character of AAP, these leaders knowingly or unknowingly are playing at the hands of the enemies of AAP and Punjab. If this continues, AAP will be no different than other political parties before the 2017 elections,” he added.
