No discrimination in France against any community : French Ambassador

Amritsar, French Ambassador to India Francois Richier on Tuesday said that there is no discrimination against any community in his country.
“There is no discrimination in France as at present most of Sikhs are working at prime positions in my country with beard and ‘turban’ (head gear),” Richier said addressing a conference on “Inclusive Society – its rights and duties”, organised by Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU).
The use of ‘turban’ by Sikh students in schools was earlier not permitted by France, which had then drawn condemnation back home in India. However, the case of ‘burqa’ (veil) worn by women is under consideration of the government due to security issues, a university release quoting him said. All Religions teach about universal equality and brotherhood, he said. He said that no doubt Punjab is land of Sikh warriors and at the same time they have achieved a lot with their hard work and dedication in other country also.
The French envoy said Sikhs and France have deep relationship as at the time of Maharaja Ranjit Singh French officers were also part of his army.
