The NITI Aayog has worked out a detailed 100-day action agenda for the Narendra Modi government 2.0 with special focus on laying robust foundation for enhancing employment opportunities and better management of water resources.
Officials concerned told The Tribune that the job at hand was accomplished with active support from officials of the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).
They said the action agenda has suggestions for further freeing up sectors like infrastructure (road, rivers, railways, airports and ports), oil and gas, education and healthcare from red tape.
With a focus on enhancing employment opportunity in the country, the document, based on which the NITI Aayog will give a presentation to the PM, has also laid out a detailed plan to push investments in MSMEs, mining, power, education and primary healthcare sectors.
A senior official of the NITI Aayog said, “We have also made efforts to suggest measures in sync with the BJP’s poll manifesto.”
As the PMO asked to work out a detailed plan on improving drinking water management and a blueprint for inter-linking of rivers, the official said, “We have incorporated an idea to build a network of dams and linkages so that India is not exposed to threat of China building dams on upstream Brahmputra as well as optimum utilisation of the rivers under India as per the Indus Water Treaty.”
Other priority areas are roads, airports and port infrastructure to promote tourism across the country. “The plan is to showcase India’s vast historical heritage by creating a network of hotels along with airports so that visitors from abroad have better access to these sites,” said the official.
Top priorities
- Laying robust foundation for enhancing employment opportunities and better management of water resources
- Building a network of dams and linkages so that India is not exposed to threat of China building dams on upstream Brahmputra
- Improving road, airport and port infrastructure to promote tourism across the country by showcasing India’s vast historical heritage
