New Zealand eves clinch T20 series beating India by 4 wkts

Bengaluru: New Zealand women defeated Indian eves by six wickets in the second game to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match T20 International series, here on Monday.

New Zealand women restricted Indian women to 136 for six after asking the home team to bat at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium. Vellaswamy Vanita top-scored for India with a 39-ball 41, followed by Harmanpreet Kaur’s 28-ball 30 and Veda Krishnamurthy’s 29 off 25 balls.

Sophie Devine picked up two wickets for New Zealand women, giving away 31 runs Kate Broadmore (1.23) and Hannah Rowe (1/10) were also among wickets for the visitors.

Chasing the modest target, New Zealand women rode on wicketkeeper Rachel Priest’s 34-ball 60 to overwhelm the target with 13 balls to spare.

Pace spearhead Jhulan Goswami (2/29) picked up two wickets for India. The third and last match of the series will be played on Wednesday. Indian women had earlier lost the first T20 by eight wickets.

Brief Scores: India 136/6 in 20 overs (VR Vanitha 39, Sophie Devine 2/31) lost to New Zealand 139/4 in 17.5 overs (Rachel Priest 60).
