New Twist to Suratkal Facebook Case, Girl Claims Picture Was ‘Doctored’

MANGULURU: One of the girls seen in the controversial photo uploaded on social media which shows a boy lying on their lap in a classroom, has claimed it was doctored by certain mischief-mongers, a day after it created a furore leading to suspension of six students from college.

In a complaint registered at the Suratkal police station near here, the girl said that the photograph was uploaded after hacking her Facebook account.

She said it was clicked by one of her classmates on February 18 and uploaded later on Facebook.

She claimed that some mischief-makers had accessed the photo by hacking her account and morphed it with the intention of misusing it and posted it back on Facebook.

Suratkal police sources said they had registered a case based on the complaint and had launched an investigation.

After the incident kicked up a row with student outfits, including Akhila Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad which asked the college authorities to debar them, all the six students were suspended from the college.

The University Students Welfare Department had also been considering action against them. The matter, which the college said “created emotional outbursts” amongst the student community, has also seen the boy being thrashed by unknown persons, leading to his hospitalisation.
