NDRF team reaches near Sangrur toddler stuck in borewell for 70 hours

Sangrur

An NDRF team has reached near two-year-old Fatehveer Singh who has been stuck in a borewell for more than 72 hours.

People have started ‘ardas’ for the child as he expected to be brought out anytime now.

The toddler had fallen into a 150-ft deep borewell outside his house on the Sunam-Sheron road in Bhagwanpura on Thursday. A joint rescue operation by the National Disaster Response Force, Armed Engineer Patiala and Sangrur administration is in its “final stage”.

The administration has dug a parallel 3-ft diameter borewell to pull the toddler out. The rescue operation was halted for three hours till 9 am due to some problems in digging the parallel borewell.

The authorities have planned to rescue Fatehveer through the widow after cutting the old borewell from beneath.

Two ambulance with a ventilator have also reached the spot while the rush of residents from the surrounding villages is increasing too.

“Our team is ready and as soon as Fatheh is pulled out, we will take him to hospital,” said Dr Manjit Singh, Civil Surgeon, Sangrur.

Hoping to see his son alive, Fatehveer’s father Sukhminder Singh and other family members refused to move away from the digging site.  Fateh fell into the borewell on Thursday evening while playing outside his house.

To avoid chaos, the administration has deputed police to keep the crowd away from the spot.
