Driving Naari Programme launched in Chandigarh
Amritsar, August 15- Chief Parliamentary Secretary and Bharatiya Janata Party MLA from Amritsar East Navjot Kaur Sidhu went on indefinite fast today pressing the administration to carry out the promise made by Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal to start development work in her neglected constituency.
Her agitation against her own government assumes significance in the context of Amritsar having been listed among the dirtiest cities in the country with the rank of 430 among total of 476 cities. The survey has provided legitimacy to her struggle.
It may be mentioned that a few days back, she had met Badal at a sangat darshan programme as she failed to get appointment. She later met him in Chandigarh and extracted the promise that development work would be started in her constituency. However, the promise has been only partly kept.
Her husband Navjot Singh Sidhu who represented Amritsar thrice in the Lok Sabha too had developed differences with the Badal government on the issue of development of the holy city.
The Badal government had been emphasising the development agenda but this agitation by Sidhu has totally exposed the hollowness of such slogans.
