Chandigarh, Election Commission of India has launched National Electoral Roll Purification Authentication Programme from 3rd March, 2015.
Disclosing this here today, Chief Electoral Officer Punjab Mr. V.K.Singh said that in this programme target is to make the electoral roll 100% correct and pure. This would involve removal of all duplicate entries and correction of inaccuracies such as wrong age, name, father’s name and poor quality of photographs.
The Chief Electoral Officer convened a meeting of all political parties on 12 -3-2015(Bahujan Samaj Party, Bharatiya Janta Party,Communist Party of India, Communist Party of India (Marxist), Indian National Congress, Nationalist Congress Party, Shiromani Akali Dal and Aam Aadmi Party). The political parties were requested to participate in this campaign and were apprised to take advantage of this opportunity to improve the electoral roll in the State. They have also been requested to appoint a booth level agent (BLA) to participate in this campaign at the booth level. The presence of such functionary will improve communication at field level. All District Election Officers have been advised to set up a booth level awareness group (BAG) to help this campaign at the booth level. This awareness group will consist of booth level officer (BLO), booth level agent (BLA)of the political parties and few other non political voters of the area as members.
This exercise is going to strengthen the democratic system by improving electoral roll, said Mr. Singh.
An important tool to improve the electoral roll is to feed the aadhar number of all voters into the electoral roll database. Aadhar number with their biometric data would help in removal of duplicate entries across the country and can be used in future for authentication of the voters also.
A campaign has been launched where electors have been requested to feed their aadhar number through the Election Commission of India website http://eci.nic.in at National Voter Service Portal (NVSP). They can also enter the aadhar number by sending an SMS to the State Election Office at 1969 in following format :
CILINK<space>EPIC_Number<space>AADHAAR Number.
They can use toll free number 1950 to feed their number into the electoral database. In this case they have to call and give their EPIC number and aadhar number to the operator.
