Mumbai woman dies of Swine flu in Patiala

Patiala, A woman from Mumbai who had come to the city to attend a wedding on January 22 died of swine flu at a local hospital last night.The victim, Sonam Kapoor (49), hails from Thane, Maharashtra. She was rushed to hospital on January 28 after she complained of respiratory problem. She was tested positive for swine flu on January 30.Dr HS Bali, Civil Surgeon, said Sonam had died due to multiple disorders. She was given specific anti-virals soon after her sample was collected, but she had diabetes, hypertension and hypothyroidism following which she could not recover, he said.Dr Bali said the condition of another swine flu patient from Kheri Mania village near Kauli, Hasharan Kaur (46), who was admitted to the PGI, Chandigarh, was stable.On steps taken by the Health Department, epidemiologist Dr Gurmeet Singh said the contacts of all swine flu patients, family members and friends, had been administered vaccine. The department had directed all health institutions to assure that every suspected case was immediately reported, he said.
