Mumbai: It seems cybercrooks are leaving no stones unturned to dupe people in the blink of an eye by devising new methods/techniques.
Yet another incident of cyber fraud was reported from Maharashtra’s Mumbai where a woman in her thirties fell prey to a cyber fraudster and lost Rs 2.45 lakh. Reportedly, the woman was tricked into sharing her bank account details by the conman who posed as an Amazon’s customer care executive.
While commenting on the fraud episode, the victim stated that she had purchased a bottle for her two-month-old infant from Amazon but as she did not like it, she wanted to return it. The woman thereby looked for Amazon’s customer care number on Google and came across one and she dialed up the same.
The fraudster on the other end of the call posed as an executive of Amazon and asked her bank account details that she had used to make the payment. He later asked her to download the Anydesk app ( It gives third-party access to one’s devices) to which she agreed as she was unaware of his evil intentions.
Meanwhile, the conman, after gaining access to her mobile generated some transaction-related messages and asked her to send the messages to him and the woman forwarded them to him. In no time, Rs 50,000 from debited from her account following which she questioned the fraudster.
The conman stated that she can use the amount to shop from Amazon. However, the woman later realised that she has been cheated as the conman also managed to transfer her fixed deposit amount.
Following this shocking episode, the woman approached the cops and an FIR has been registered with the Borivali police station on January 11.
