MANPREET DEMANDS RS 400 PER QUINTAL HIKE IN PADDY MSP

manpreet-badal* Rs 50 hike in paddy MSP another anti-farmer decision
Chandigarh, June 17: People’s Party of Punjab chief Manpreet Singh Badal today slammed the meagre Rs 50 per quintal hike in the minimum support price of paddy for the current season as reflective of the anti-farmer attitude of the Narendra Modi government with which it had come to be associated with.

Demanding a hike of at least Rs 400 per quintal, he reminded the ruling BJP and the Akali Dal, which are alliance partners, to implement the recommendations of the Swaminathan Committee to hike the crop prices ensuring 50 per cent profit over and above the cost of production. He said earlier, the Modi government had come out blatantly anti-people amendments in the land acquisition legislation.

He said the Akali Dal was part of the Modi government and hence chief minister Parkash Singh Badal must come out whether his party had opposed this hike at the decision making stage itself or not as it was a joke with the farmers. Moreover, Mr Badal had been demanding higher MSP.

He said the Modi government had once again ditched the farmers.

At the same time, he advocated some arrangement under which the interests of both the farmers and the consumers were protected.
