Manpreet demands strict action in Ropar hit and run case involving ruling family bus

Chandigarh, July 9: People’s Party of Punjab chief Manpreet Singh Badal today demanded strict action in the hit and run case allegedly involving a bus owned by the ruling Badal family resulting in the killing of Swaran Singh of Bahrampur near Ropar toll plaza in the morning.

He said what was all the more serious that the accident took place on a busy highway but the bus driver sped away and the police did not come into action. The people jammed traffic on the highway.

He supported the demand of the people for compensation of Rs 30 lakh to be paid by the transport company and a government job to the members of the bereaved family.

Manpreet said there was no check on the in discipline bordering goondaism being resorted to by the staff of the ruling first family of buses despite the so called orientation course that was organised after the Moga tragedy involving the death of a young girl who was pushed out of speeding Orbit company bus.

He said the staff of these companies was a law unto themselves as no action had been taken so far in case of Moga tragedy and none knew as to what happened to the commission constituted to probe it.

He said the Punjab and Haryana High Court had already taken cognizance of an anonymous letter on the issue of amassing of wealth by the Badal family. He appealed to the Court to direct probe under its supervision into the Moga and Ropar accidents in particular.
