Calgary:- A public school in northeast Calgary will be named after the late Manmeet Bhullar.
The Calgary Board of Education says Manmeet Singh Bhullar School is expected to open in Martindale in September 2017.
Bhullar was a popular Tory MLA who died in an accident on the QE2 last November.
He had stopped on the side of the road to help another driver when he was hit by a vehicle.
The new kindergarten-to-Grade 5 school will hold 600 students.
Bhullar was first elected to the legislature in 2008, at age 28. He went on to hold several cabinet posts, including Minister of Service Alberta, Minister of Human Services and Minister of Infrastructure.
Born in Calgary, Bhullar graduated from Lester B. Pearson High School before earning a bachelor of arts from Athabasca University and a bachelor of law from the University of Windsor.
Before running for office, he founded the Inspire Youth Development Society, which works with at-risk youth, and worked on several political campaigns.
