New Delhi: Senior Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge on Monday complained that his mike was switched off when he wanted to ask questions from Prime Minister Narendra Modi following his statement in Lok Sabha on the controversial remarks made by a Union Minister.
Raising the issue ahead of the Question Hour, Kharge said even the document showing the proceedings of the House on Friday did not mention his remarks.
He claimed the TV also did not show his remarks made after the PM’s statement. “You are the protector of interests … such things should not happen again,” he said referring to Speaker Sumitra Mahajan.
Kharge said the intention is not to disrupt proceedings of the House by repeatedly raising issues but it was an important matter he wanted to bring to the notice of the Speaker.
At this, Parliamentary Affairs Minister M Venkaiah Naidu said what the PM spoke and the issue raised by Kharge form part of the proceedings, though certain parts of the Congress leaders remarks were drowned in din.
The Speaker said mikes are only turned on when she allows a member to speak.
Mahajan said she has disallowed a notice of adjournment given by KC Venugopal (Congress) and Rajesh Ranjan (RJD). She said issues of urgent importance can be raised during Zero Hour.
Venugopal raised the issue of the case of dumping of uniforms of CRPF personnel killed in a recent encounter with Naxals in Chhattisgarh in a dustbin outside a government hospital.
