MAJITHIA ADVOCATES CAPITAL PUNISHMENT FOR CULPRITS OF SACRILEGE ACTS

CHANDIGARH, MARCH 14: Expressing deep concern over the acts of sacrilege of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, Mr. Bikram Singh Majithia, Revenue and Information & Public Relations Minister, Punjab today advocated the capital punishment for the culprits under section 302 of the Indian Penal Code.

While speaking during the zero hour in Punjab Vidhan Sabha, the Minister expressed serious concern over the recent case of sacrilege of Sri Guru Granth Sahib at Gurdwara sahib of Village Ram Diwali under Mattewal Police Station in Amritsar district. He informed the house that the persons behind this blasphemy act has been apprehended by the police. He said that it is a very sensitive and emotive issue for the whole mankind that Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, who has been revered as Living Guru, has been made target by miscreants to disturb the peace and harmony of the state.

Mr. Majithia said that it was a most unfortunate movement for all the Sikhs that the body, soul and mind of Punjab and the country–in fact the entire human kind–were traumatized by the shocking and painful serial acts of sacrilege against Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji, a sacred light-house of divinity, peace, love, compassion and human brother-hood for the entire humanity.

Mr. Majithia put suggestion before the house that such kind of acts of sacrilege must be considered as the rarest of the rare crime and the culprits must be sentenced with capital punishment under section 302 or Indian Penal Code. Advocating his cause for the capital punishment, Mr. Majithia further said that act of sacrilege of Sri Guru Granth Sahib, is the most heinous in nature and a grave threat to peace. He said that the state government is duty bound to defeat such kind of inhumane acts with iron hand and the perpetrators of these ghastly acts must be brought to the books.
