Loonie holds steady ahead of opening of North American markets

TORONTO — The Canadian dollar was holding steady and U.S. index futures were up ahead of trading on North American stock markets.
The loonie traded at 76.18 cents US, up 0.04 of a U.S. cent from Friday.
The Dow Jones industrial futures were up 119.0 points at 17,440.0, the Nasdaq futures advanced 28.5 points to 4,547.5, and the S&P 500 futures rose 14.4 points to 2,088.0.
On the commodity markets, the December gold contract rose 30 cents to US$1,094.40 an ounce, the September crude contract was up 34 cents at US$44.21 a barrel and the September contract for natural gas was up five cents at US$2.85.
The S&P/TSX composite index closed Friday at 14,302.70, after falling points 103.21 points.
