Chandigarh, July 21
Thousands of workers of left parties staged a protest at all district headquarters in Punjab seeking dismissal of “ministers and chief ministers of the BJP involved” in scams like Vyapam and IPL quagmire. They also protested the land acquisition Bill.
The call for the protest was given by the All-India Coordination Committee of six left parties. Their deputations met deputy commissioners at all the district headquarters and submitted memorandums.
State secretaries Hardev Arshi (CPI), Charan Singh Virdi (CPM), Mangat Ram Pasla (CPM-Punjab) and Gurmit Singh Bakhtupur (CPI-ML) Liberation) addressed workers at various protest sites.
The speakers demanded immediate settlement of the 15-point demand charter of the left parties containing demands of the people of Punjab which included allotment of 10 marla plots to houseless people, Rs 15,000 per month as minimum wage, enhancement of old-age and widow pension to Rs 3,000 per month, round the year work to MGNREGA workers and Rs 500 as daily wage, implementation of Swaminathan recommendations for fixing minimum support price for agricultural produce.
Moga:Hundreds of activists of the CPI and CPM staged a protest and raised slogans against the SAD-BJP government in Moga today. They opposed the Land Acquisition Bill-2015 and “government’s failure to provide basic amenities” to the people.
Tarn Taran:The CPI, CPM, CPM Punjab and CPI (ML) Liberation staged a dharna at the DC’s Office against the “anti-people” policies of the Centre and the state government here today. They also took out a protest march.
