Kotkapura firing case: SIT EXAMINES 12 COPS IN CONNECTION

Chandigarh, October 17: The special investigation team (SIT) probing the police firing at Kotkapura examined 12 Police officials, and another 21 persons were questioned in connection with the firing incident at Behbal Kalan, on the second day of their visit to the areas on Wednesday.

The SIT also interacted with those sitting on dharna to demand justice, according to a police spokesperson.

SIT members met with Dhian Singh Mand, Baba Baljit Singh Daduwal, and Paramjit Saholi, and asked them to send witnesses and persons who had any knowledge of the incident (s), which took place at Behbal Kalan and Bargari in October 2105.

The 12 police officials examined today at Faridkot were in the rank of constable to inspector.

The spokesperson further said that the police personnel questioned today were among those who were deployed at Kotkapura chowk on the fateful day of firing. Several of them took part in the police action and some of them had sustained injuries as well.

Pertinently, the names of these also find mention in the Justice Ranjit Singh Commission report. The SIT has examined them to establish exact sequence of events and to identify the role played by them in the entire episode.

The names of police officials whose statements were recorded today were Inspector(Retd) Bhalla Singh, ASI Angrej Singh, 98/FDK, ASI Gurmail Singh, 27/26-PAP, HC Jaswinder Singh, 1158/LDH, HC Lakhbir Singh, 75/702, HC Sukhjinder Singh, 704/FZR, HC Satpal Singh, 1917/LDH, HC Avinash Rai, 2057/LDH, CT Manjinder Singh, 2043/LDH, CT Ashwani Kumar, 80/909-PAP, CT Nirmal Rai, 80/945.

The SIT will continue the investigation tomorrow when it will examine 18 police officers in the rank of SP and DSP in Phagwara in connection with Behbal Kalan incident. The Kotkapura team will also examine more witnesses.
