Chandigarh, April 29- Shiromani Akali Dal today asked Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)Convener Arvind Kejriwal to explain who was responsible for death of 400 people who died in night shelters of Delhi due to drug overdose before trying to paint Punjabis as drug addicts.
In a statement issued here, SAD general secretary Dr Daljit Singh Cheema said it was condemnable that Kejriwal was trying to defame Punjab and Punjabis with the sole purpose of wresting power in Punjab. “Before resorting to such defamatory exercises as the one done today during a visit here you must explain why Delhi has become a haven for drugs to such an extent that people are dying of overdoses even in night shelters”, Dr Cheema said.
The SAD spokesman said AAP had designed the ongoing “Kejri Propaganda’ on the lines of ‘Nazi Propaganda’ to mislead people. “You have even set aside a never heard sum of Rs 550 crore of tax payers money of the people of Delhi to propagate your own personality in Punjab and other States of the country. This amounts to not only betraying the people of Delhi who thought you would use their money for development of the State but also a precursor to other States as to what you will do with their resources if you ever come to power”, he added.
Contradicting Kejriwal’s claim of providing employment to all after getting elected to power in Punjab,Cheema said there was rampant unemployment everywhere and even those who were working, like safai karamcharis, were not getting their wages. “On the other hand, the Delhi CM increased the salaries for himself and his MLAs by 400%, which is unprecedented,” he added.
Hitting back at Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on corruption issue, the Akali leader said Kejriwal had come into existence on the plank of anti-corruption, but now he was supporting corruption. He said Kejriwal attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi over CBI raids at residence of Delhi government’s Principal Secretary Rajendra Kumar who was involved in corrupt deals. “When AAP’s Kondli MLA Manoj Kumar was arrested in connection with a forgery case AAP accused the BJP of politics and initially described the arrest as vindictive but as the police investigation progressed and the charges against him were found to be true, the party decided to dissociate itself from him. Kejriwal sought to absolve himself of blame by claiming that he was kept in the dark and shown the wrong documents. This very clearly prices that Kejriwal’s claims to morality are hollow”, Dr Cheema added.
On farmers’ issue, the Akali leader said the nation had not forgotten Gajendra Singh’s suicide at AAP rally. He said AAP had nothing serious in its kitty except drama politics of sensationalizing any issue for its political benefit. He said Punjab was the sole State to come out with an indebtness bill to ensure farmers were not exploited by unscrupulous money lenders. He said similarly the State had provided a power subsidy of Rs 25,000 crore to farmers on account of free power supplied to them. “We not only care for the farmer but have also provided relief to him to minimise the brunt of the agrarian crisis which has effected farmers nationally”, he added.
