With the most-talked about topic being the controversial All India Bakchod (AIB) roast of Arjun Kapoor and Ranveer Singh, celebrities have been sharing their opinions and thoughts on the same.
Actress Kareena Kapoor Khan was also asked to comment on the issue at a recent press meet where she launched a new range of ice cream in Delhi. However, the actress preferred to stay clear off the whole controversy. When asked if she had watched the AIB roast of Arjun Kapoor and Ranveer Singh, she said, “Oh no please, I really have no interest in watching it.”
She further added, “India has better and far more important things to worry about than AIB.”
Other celebrities have not been so diplomatic and afraid to voice their thoughts. ‘PK’ actor Aamir Khan lashed out at his colleagues, the two Bollywood heartthrobs and filmmaker Karan Johar who are consenting adults and participated in the roast, which Aamir thought to be highly offensive and the show extremely violent.
“My opinion is that it was a violent show. Karan (Johar) and Arjun (Kapoor) are my friends and I scolded them and told them that I was not impressed with it. I am not someone who can laugh at abuses and bad language, I think I have passed that age,” said Aamir Khan.
Furthermore, Aamir Khan also stated that he hasn’t even watched the ‘roast’ which has now been taken down from Youtube by All India Bakchod.
“I have not yet seen that roast, but I have heard a lot about it roast’. And I have seen 2-3 clips of that, I was deeply affected by that and I was most disappointed in what I was hearing. I completely believe in freedom of speech no issues, but we have to understand we all have certain responsibilities,” said Mr. perfectionist.
However, the ‘PK’ actor has been receiving a lot of backlash for expressing his opinion. Some claim that the actor who produced black comedy film, ‘Delhi Belly’ and danced to item number ‘Bhaag D.K. Bose’, has double standards, in claiming that he is not against freedom of speech, but only feels we should keep our mouths shut, when what we say causes offence to certain people.
Another celebrity to speak her mind was none other than former actress Twinkle Khanna. In a column for Times of India, Twinkle wrote about how ‘a country that won their freedom in a non-reactive manner, has now changed to a country that has decided to be offended by arbitrary things’ and asks ‘Shouldn’t we save our strength to protest against things that really matter’.
