Chandigarh, The Punjab government would provide adequate ration to the anganwari centres besides providing basic amenities like safe clean place, drinking water facilities and clean toilets in these centres.
While addressing a meeting of the senior officers of the department Mr. Surjit Kumar Jyani said that the tenders for the purchase of food and rations for the anganwari centres would be floated at the district levels instead of Punjab level in order to provide timely and fresh food items to the children. The Minister has also asked the officers to work at the ground level and keep a repeated check on the functioning of the anganwari centres.
The Minister also said that the ongoing schemes in the Social Security department need to be monitoring. Mr. Jayani has also directed the officers to ensure adequate stock of the eatables and ration to be supplied to the children in Anganwari centres. He has categorically emphasized on the need to ensure only good quality of food especially to the women and children with a clear mentioning of the manufacturing and expiry date on the packets served to them in case they have to be provide with the packed food items.
Mr. Jyani also asked the officers to make sure that the children living in the Homes under ICPS schemes be provided required technical training so as to enable them to stand on their own feet and could earn their livelihood.
Taking serious note of the funds meant for the anganwari centres being lapsed unused, Mr. Jayani has asked the officers to utilize the funds instantaneously without any delay so that more beneficiaries could be get the financial benefits. The carelessness on the part of the officers would not be tolerated. Referring to 266 posts of anganwari workers and 358 posts of helpers lying vacant would be filled at the earliest.
The minister has also asked the officers to clear the backlog of the disbursal of pensions and also identify the fake beneficiaries getting pensions so that the strict action could be taken against them and the erring officers. Prominent amongst others who were present in the meeting included Mr. Jaspal Singh Secretary Social Security, Ms. Alaknanda Dayal, Director Social Security, District Social Security Officers and District Programme Officers besides other senior officers of the department.
